Project Description
Western Harbour Crossing is a dual 3-lane immersed tube tunnel. It is the third road tunnel to cross Victoria Harbour, linking the newly reclaimed land in Yau Ma Tei on Kowloon West with Sai Ying Pun on Hong Kong island. The tunnel carries on the Route 3 designation from the West Kowloon Highway, and connects to Route 4 on Hong Kong Island.
Western Harbour Crossing is also a part of the Airport Core Programme which is a comprehensive set of infrastructure projects associated with the international airport in Chek Lap Kok.
Scope of Works
7 sub-contracts awarded involving construction of foundations and retaining structures, and ground investigation works on both land and marine for the Western Harbour Crossing (ventilation building, toll plaza, cut & cover tunnel, ventilation shaft, immersed tube tunnel and drydock). Foundations include barrettes, while retaining structures include diaphragm walls and sheet pile walls. The works also include slurry trench excavation for the installation of sheet pile walls.

– Diaphragm walls: (a) 1.2m thick, (b) excavation area 55,290m2
– Sheet pile walls: (a) area 22,116m2
