It is a good start in 2024 for BSGL winning the first project which is Environment focused, a CEDD project with trial piles testing the application of GGBS concrete in large diameter bored piles.

Ground Granulated Blast-furnace Slag (GGBS) concrete is much more environmental friendly due to its low carbon footprint property.

GGBS is a byproduct of iron and steel production. It is obtained by quenching molten slag from blast furnaces with water or steam, followed by drying and grinding. This finely ground material can partially replace ordinary Portland cement (OPC) in concrete mixtures.

Further to the experiences of implementing GGBS cement in Deep Cement Mixing in our previous Third Runway Project C3205, BSGL is glad to have won this project and to be involved again in projects highlighting the contribution to make a greener habitat.

Soletanche Bachy is also dedicated to promoting the design and delivery of Low Carbon Concrete, EXEGY concrete, worldwide.

There are totally two test bored piles with grade 60 concrete in different GGBS content and the first one was successfully cast in late February 2024.

Instruments including thermal couples and fiber-optic sensors have been installed along steel rebar cage to collect data during the concrete strength development and hardening process. After the analysis, the dosage of GGBS content will be reviewed and adjusted accordingly for the second trial pile.

Stay tune for our news in the future regarding more applications of the Low Carbon Concrete.
