Project Description

The Eastern Harbour Crossing is a combined road-rail tunnel that crosses beneath Victoria Harbour. It connects Quarry Bay, Hong Kong Island and Cha Kwo Ling, Kowloon East.

The tunnel features two components which are road part and rail part. The road part links the Island Eastern Corridor in Hong Kong Island, Lei Yue Mun Road, Tseung Kwan O Tunnel, Tseung Kwan O – Lam Tin Tunnel and the Kwun Tong Bypass in Kowloon East. The rail part, lying to the southeast of the road part, runs between Quarry Bay and Yau Tong stations of the MTR Tseung Kwan O line.

Scope of Works

Construction of foundations and retaining structures, injection grouting for ground treatment and ground anchor works for the Eastern Harbour Crossing (ventilation building, cut & cover and access shafts). Foundations include barrettes, while retaining structures include diaphragm walls. The works also include slurry trench excavation for the installation of sheet pile walls.
– Barrettes: (a) 46 nos., (b) 2.8m long, (c) 0.8m & 1.2m thick
– Diaphragm walls: (a) 0.8m & 1.2m thick, (b) excavation area 33,600m2
– Injection grouting: (a) grout volume 4,900m3, (b) chemical with bentonite/cement grout
– Ground anchors: (a) 123 nos., (b) capacity 50 tons & 110 tons
– Slurry trench: (a) 1.2m thick, (b) excavation area 2,200m2
